Tiny Florence – Faces & Places

Captured by the Introduction to Digital Photography students and curated by the Gallery and Exhibition Curating students of Florence University of the Arts & The American University of Florence, Tiny Florence – Faces & Places invites the audience to explore the city through a fresh lens.

This summer, students from various international universities were given the broad theme of “Florence, beyond the postcard view,” and were tasked with capturing their first impressions of Florence. With 12 different subjects assigned, the students photographed the views of the city through bridges, landscapes, the Arno river, oddities, and the people that make this city great. Through a myriad of miniature black-and-white photographs, this exhibition reimagines the beloved cityscape within a 5”x 5” frame.

Tiny Florence invites you into an intimate journey through the soul of Florence, created by new student photographers seeing the city through a fresh perspective. Each print captures a quiet moment, a fleeting shadow, a weathered wall, a stolen glance. These tiny images ask you to look closer, to feel the wonder we felt, and to fall in love with Florence the way we did. Florence is a city of rich culture that can only truly be appreciated if you take a step back and live in each small moment.

Curated by students, this exhibition became more than just a project—it was a learning experience that deepened our connection to Florence and to the creative process. We were challenged to see the city differently, to notice the quiet charm in everyday moments, and to thoughtfully present them to others. We hope Tiny Florence – Faces and Places invites you to see the city with an artistic point of view and brings you the same sense of wonder and appreciation it brought us while curating it.
