Tiny Florence – Fall 2025
The photography exhibition, Tiny Florence, is an excellent collection of small-scale images capturing Florence’s culture and beauty. The photos are diverse in subject matter and style, yet come together in revealing intimate relations and candid moments in the city. This exploration of Florence acts as both a discovery of the profound history of the city, its contemporary people, and places. Student, Amanda Marken explains that, “more than geography or architecture, I believe that people are what make a city magical. So I specifically sought out people and their relationship with one another for this reason.” It is clear that her main goal with photography is to remind the audience how beautifully mundane and simple life can truly be. The raw moments in the exhibition reflect the raw moments of life’s ups and downs.
The formatting, although set forth through a collection of limitations, creates uniformity and aesthetically pleasing visuals. The tiny black and white square photos draw the viewer in and put forth eye-catching scenes. Photographs range from Renaissance era architecture, monuments, beautiful Tuscan scenery, and people, showcasing the many different perspectives of the city.
Furthermore, the exhibition embodies the mission of promoting and renewing creative disciplines in a city renowned for its history-changing innovations.
The photographers, FUA and AUF students in Digital Photography classes, mastered skills of professional camera use and editing, while taking to exploring the city through a lens with meaning and passion behind each snapshot. With that, students in the Gallery and Exhibition Curating Class assisted with the detailed planning, organization, and the final showcase selection.
Tiny Florence reveals the diversity of life, through approaching mindsets to deeply understand the principles of the parts and how they are present in today’s context.
