Born in the province of Pisa in the city of Pontedera in 1974, Simone De Castro discovered his passion for the fine arts at 17 years old. When his family was moving out of his childhood home he ripped a kitchen cabinet door from its hinges and started painting on it, and thus his artistic journey began. Like many artists, Simone would continue using the canvas to express his emotions. At the same time, DeCastro works as a pastry chef and his profession plays an important role in his artistic production: all of his work is done with his trusty bench scraper, a kitchen tool commonly used in baking an not the visual arts that gives a unique feel to all of his paintings. Transparencies is a collection of works from the last decade, offering small glimpses of important moments in the artist’s life from 2009 onward.
Florence University of the Arts – The American University of Florence is proud to host this exhibition at Corridoio Fiorentino located inside Palazzo Villani Stiozzi Ridolfi. All members of the local community are invited to take part in this unique experience.

Nato nel 1974 nella provincia di Pisa a Pontedera, Simone De Castro scopre la passione per l’arte all’età di 17 anni. Per caso, durante il duro trasloco dalla sua casa d’infanzia, preso dalla frustrazione del momento, rompe la porta di una credenza e inizia a dipingerci sopra. Come per tanti artisti, anche per Simone la tela diventa strumento espressivo, mezzo attraverso cui esternare le proprie emozioni. Contemporaneamente De Castro è anche pasticcere e la sua professione si rivela fondamentale per la produzione artistica: unico strumento utilizzato nella realizzazione delle opere è infatti il fidato “raschietto”, attrezzo tipico della pasticceria che conttribuisce a rendere i suoi pezzi unici. Trasparenze è il risultato dell’esperienza dell’ultimo decennio, uno sguardo nelle emozioni vissute dal 2009 a oggi.
