To go abroad—it’s the opportunity of a lifetime. To escape the everyday of your regular lifestyle and capture something new, something unique and different. It is a chance to venture into the unknown, rejuvenate in the exiting of comfort, and position yourself in a new space, curated by different people, languages, spaces, and cultures. To go abroad means to embrace growth, allow yourself to be rediscovered and gain the confidence you need to immerse yourself anywhere you may go in life.
In the AUF and FUA, students across the world got the chance to experience this level of transformation and growth in Florence, Italy through their study abroad programs—becoming wanderers to this space and collecting experiences away from home. From inside the classroom and beyond, students were enriched, gaining valuable skills and perspectives that exceed themselves leading to a broader self-growth, especially when it comes to culture and artistry. Regardless of background and skills, within FUA-AUF’s DIVA, students get the chance to artistically explore and blossom into greater artists, expanding their creative practices with exploration and observation.
This exhibition brings together a selection of student work created during their time abroad, ranging from Photography projects. These works reflect not only technical growth and craftsmanship, but also the personal journeys of each artist—reconnecting with their emotions, their ability to bring something to life, and capture moments of discovery, adaptation, and reflection shaped by their time abroad in a new setting.
With this exhibition, we reflect on what it means to go abroad. Corridoio Florentino has always been a space that connects students to local artists. For this last exhibition, that tradition has now morphed into locals connecting with foreign students, getting to see how they see Florence throughout their stay. To put yourself in a new environment, miles away from home, and dwell in a new space—covering yourself with an air you haven’t breathed in before and broadening your horizons in a world you’ve adapted into over time. Being a wanderer and collecting experiences away from home.
